So CPBC #20 has come and gone.
I really, really liked The Graveyard Book. It was refreshingly intense without being filled with zombies.
I suppose there where ghosts and hell hounds but still - It was nice, in a non-apocalyptic kind of way.
Coming up we have the dissection of Freud and Jung and naturally, their relationship/feud/whatever over Kiera Knightly. Also known as A Dangerou Method.
Thus far the book is unappealing. I will be the first to admit that I was drawn in by Hollywood's beautiful people rendition and surprisingly ill-informed about the actual content or categorization of the book.
Definitely non-fictional, psych course material.
I'm not sure what I was expecting.
Actually, that's not true.
I was expecting a seedy love story about a messed up girl who is treated for psychological disorders.
Naturally her doctor preys on the sexual deviance of her illness and they become lovers.
Not sure where Freud fits in but come on, Viggo can do whatever he wants, as long as there is some nudity involved.
What I got was an introduction a good 40 pages long and the historical account of the evolution of early psycho-therapy.
And I am still on chapter 3.
So yes, NOT what I was expecting. I will try to power through because I do assume the seedy, and I use the term "love" and "story" loosely here, will eventually get teased out from the academia, but patient I am not.
Also, Introductions are used to explain something in the book, where you got the idea, inspiration, or something supplemental to the story. Do Not make it the entire damn book before the book even starts.
Poor form, sir, poor form.
Offputting from the get go, so yes, I am judging unfairly but whatever.
Anyway, we'll see how this pans out. Right now I can't tear myself away from the Game of Thrones series, I am not a responsible reader this go around.
Either way, I am hoping for nice grilling weather and a decent spin for the movie viewing to salvage this thing.
Sorry for the dud.
Still friends?
