Okay, so before we jump in... can we just take a moment to acknowledge that, like, half the population probably has no idea what Videotape is?!
What the whaaaaaa?
Wow, do I feel like an old Trogglus normalus.
Okay, moving on.
Yes, after a few blizzard delays, we finally gathered to discuss Ender's Game at Mike's house - which if you have read this blog before, you know is actually Mike's grandparents' house.
Which has the world's best combination of trinkets, whimsy, and terror I have ever seen.
The china cabinet, the nick-knacks, the Mouse Trap-esque refrigerator positioned perilously over the open stairway to the basement.
Man, I love it.
Moving on part two.
The book: Me Likee.
It was a good read and interesting, I am excited (but have not started) to read the next in the series and found it kind of cool to look back and see how the 1980's viewed the futuristic dystopian child fiction genre.
I feel like we are drowning in that type of literature now... Hunger Games, Divergent, Mortal Instruments to name a few.
Don't get me wrong, I'm loving it. But it's nice to see what The Future looked like to people back then.
I mean, just watch the Back to the Future movies for a laugh about what 2015 would look like.
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't wish for a Hoverboard.
The rest of the evening was spent chatting over various inappropriate topics, trying not to burn the pizza Mike left in the oven while he silently stole off into the night without a word and returned with two cases of beer, and pestering his two elderly and not entirely social house cats.
Also, while the group devoured said pizza (not burned), Mike - again - silently and without explanation, proceeded to bring out and eat a block of tofu.
At this point, I sometimes think questions are better left unasked.
All in all, a successful, fun and tasty (for me) evening was had.
I'm excited for the next installment.
Melizard, out!
